About the Company

Checkout Page is an online payment platform created by Sander Visser that simplifies the process of accepting payments for small, independent businesses. It allows users to generate payment links that can be shared through websites, social media, or even QR codes, enabling businesses to easily process payments without needing advanced technical skills.

The platform was born out of Visser’s desire to provide a no-code payment solution. Currently, the business processes over $1 million in transactions, with the platform earning revenue through transaction fees. Although initially a solo venture, Visser is now partnering with a co-founder to grow the platform further.

Idea Behind Company

Visser’s journey began as a freelance front-end developer, where he craved freedom in his work and lifestyle. He was drawn to the concept of building his own software business, one that would allow him to travel freely and maintain a flexible schedule. The idea for Checkout Page stemmed from conversations with fellow entrepreneurs about the difficulty of accepting payments through Stripe without coding.

Seeing a clear gap in the market, Visser decided to create a product that would offer an easy, code-free way for entrepreneurs to accept online payments. He launched a minimum viable product (MVP) on Product Hunt, which received significant attention and validation. This early success fueled his decision to focus more on developing the product.

Creating the Company

With limited backend development experience, Visser focused on designing a simple, user-friendly payment tool. The early version of Checkout Page allowed users to create custom checkout links with fields to collect essential information, like customer emails or shipping addresses. Visser adopted a brutalist design for the platform, emphasizing function over form to quickly launch his MVP.

He also made customer support a priority, personally handling every inquiry to build relationships with early users. This approach helped him gain valuable feedback, which guided future product improvements. With a single chat function on the website, Visser was able to interact directly with customers and tweak the product to meet their needs.

Launching the Business

Checkout Page had a successful launch on Product Hunt, where it garnered over 700 upvotes and a strong influx of traffic. Visser’s goal was not to generate immediate revenue, but to validate his idea and attract early adopters. The launch brought 2,500 visitors and 60 signups, providing the initial validation he needed to continue developing the product.

Despite this strong start, the period following the launch was challenging. After the initial buzz, traffic slowed down, and many of the early signups did not convert into active users. Visser leveraged platforms like Quora and Product Hunt to continue generating interest but found it difficult to sustain growth on his own, leading to the decision to bring in a co-founder.

Earnings

Currently, Checkout Page generates around $1,200 per month, with transactional revenue varying based on customer activity. Visser’s goal is to increase this figure to $10,000 per month by focusing on improving the user experience and expanding marketing efforts. The business has minimal operating costs of around $200 per month, and Visser is not yet paying himself a salary.

With a focus on growing customer transaction volumes, Visser and his co-founder Andy are confident they can scale the business. Their strategy is to help their customers succeed, which in turn leads to higher transaction volumes, more exposure, and increased revenue for Checkout Page.
