Conversion Crimes

About the Company
Conversion Crimes focuses on usability testing to help businesses improve user experience and optimize conversion rates. Users can watch real-time videos of individuals navigating their websites while voicing their thoughts. By addressing usability issues uncovered through these tests, businesses can implement targeted changes to improve functionality and boost sales. The platform's accessibility removes the need for CRO experts, offering a cost-effective solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The software works by gathering user feedback to determine the ease of purchasing, trustworthiness, and clarity of the website’s offerings. Its ability to conduct usability testing without heavy traffic requirements makes it a valuable alternative to traditional A/B testing.
Idea Behind Company
Zeda's idea for Conversion Crimes stemmed from her experience running Zeda Labs, an agency specializing in CRO and user experience design. Usability testing consistently yielded the most valuable insights during client audits, proving its effectiveness in increasing revenue. However, existing usability testing platforms were often too expensive or inefficient for SMEs.
She saw an opportunity to create an affordable, user-friendly platform tailored to smaller businesses. Zeda wanted to make usability testing more accessible by eliminating barriers like high costs and complex workflows.
Creating the Company
The first version of Conversion Crimes was built using basic tools like Google Forms and Amazon Mechanical Turk. Despite its simplicity, the MVP demonstrated the potential value of the product. Zeda validated the market by selling usability testing services at coworking spaces and receiving enthusiastic feedback from early adopters.
Subsequent iterations included human automation and attempts to create a coded platform, though initial setbacks delayed the launch. Eventually, Zeda and her team used WordPress to develop the first functional version, leveraging their existing expertise to create a scalable product.
Launching the Business
Conversion Crimes launched in September 2020, coinciding with Zeda’s decision to close her agency and focus entirely on the new venture. The team worked tirelessly to build the product and create marketing materials, culminating in a successful debut on Product Hunt, where it earned the top spot for the day.
While the launch brought visibility, the initial website struggled to convey the product's value, limiting conversions. Zeda responded by refining the messaging, collecting customer testimonials, and iterating on the platform based on user feedback.
