About the Company

Live Helper Chat is an open-source live chat application aimed at businesses wanting to host their chat services. Based in Lithuania, it caters to a wide range of clients, from small businesses to large enterprises. Its mission is to provide customizable and user-friendly chat solutions.

The business operates without employees and remains independent, emphasizing customer relationships and open-source collaboration. With consistent updates and a GitHub presence boasting over 1.5K stars, the project continues to thrive. Revenue comes from customer support, feature integrations, and hosting services.

Personalized client attention is a core value, with direct access via Skype or Discord ensuring strong relationships. This approach has earned repeat clients and long-term success stories.

Idea Behind Company

The idea originated over a decade ago when the founder developed a live chat script for a client at a web agency. Lacking good open-source alternatives, he created the initial version during a holiday.

Years later, he noticed continued interest despite the project being inactive. Renewed dedication during another holiday led to gradual development, forum requests, and donations. This marked the beginning of its evolution into a viable product.

A key realization came when balancing a full-time job and side project became unsustainable. Transitioning to working solely on Live Helper Chat provided the freedom and focus needed for growth.

Creating the Company

The first version of Live Helper Chat was created in two weeks using jQuery and Foundation CSS, with minimal costs other than time. The project remained independent, with ongoing improvements based on community and client feedback.

The founder gradually migrated from initial frameworks to a mix of modern tools like AngularJS and React. However, maintaining usability for diverse user needs remains a challenge, especially for front-end functionality.

Without external funding, all development was self-driven, focusing on flexibility and gradual refinement. This independence allowed the project to prioritize user needs and open-source contributions.

Launching the Business

The launch was understated, with minimal promotion through a website and script repositories. Donations and small client orders confirmed its potential, encouraging further efforts.

The founder utilized organic growth strategies, relying on search engine visibility rather than paid advertisements. Early clients were drawn to the project's consistent updates and active community involvement.

Over time, branding evolved alongside the tool, reflecting its professionalization. Direct client interaction and ongoing updates built trust and a loyal user base.

Earnings

Live Helper Chat generates $7.5K monthly in revenue, primarily from hosting services, custom integrations, and direct client support. The founder works alone, managing every aspect of the business.

Automation for hosting is a future goal to improve scalability, as income is currently limited by hours worked. The business model remains focused on quality over quantity, appealing to clients seeking robust solutions.

Clients include both resellers and companies using it as a tool for their operations. Revenue growth aligns with increasing recognition of its capabilities and consistent client satisfaction.
