About the Company

Parseur was co-founded by Sylvestre Dupont and Sylvain in 2017. It is a subscription-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool that automates data extraction from emails and documents, such as PDFs. Headquartered in Mauritius, Parseur serves clients worldwide, providing automation solutions to industries such as food delivery, real estate, e-commerce, and marketing.

The tool eliminates the manual copying and pasting of essential business data, significantly improving efficiency and accuracy. Businesses can use Parseur to save costs, reduce errors, and focus on value-added tasks. The software reads incoming documents, extracts relevant data, and integrates seamlessly with other systems like delivery management software or CRM tools.

Parseur's customer base ranges from individuals to enterprises, leveraging its adaptability for various workflows. The company is entirely bootstrapped and currently achieves $40K in monthly revenue, emphasizing steady, sustainable growth rather than rapid expansion.

Idea Behind Company

The concept of Parseur emerged from Sylvestre's frustration with repetitive manual tasks during a side project. While working on a travel map application in 2015, he wished for an automated way to process travel confirmation emails. Recognizing the broader potential, he envisioned an email parsing tool that could extract data for various use cases.

Sylvain, an expert in Python programming and a longtime friend, shared Sylvestre’s entrepreneurial ambitions. The duo decided to collaborate and explore this idea. They started with market research, analyzing competitors and pricing strategies to identify gaps and opportunities in the data extraction industry.

To test the idea’s viability, they created a landing page for "Captain Parser," an early prototype concept. Despite its whimsical pirate theme, the feedback validated demand for the service, motivating them to develop the product further.

Creating the Company

In 2015, the co-founders began prototyping Parseur during a collaborative "workation" in Bucharest. Initially focusing on email parsing, they worked part-time on the project, balancing development with marketing experiments like Google Ads campaigns. Early mockups showcased a user-friendly design where users could point and click to extract data from sample documents.

The product's development faced challenges, including underestimated complexities like building a dynamic data extraction system and integrating payment solutions. After a year of iterations and rewrites, the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was completed in December 2016. The co-founders opted for a professional rebranding, transitioning from "Captain Parser" to "Parseur," which translates to "parser" in French.

Despite launching with a polished product in early 2017, the initial reception was underwhelming. However, by refining their target audience and leveraging platforms like Quora and Zapier, Parseur gradually gained traction.

Launching the Business

Parseur's launch faced initial setbacks. Efforts to promote the product on HackerNews, ProductHunt, and social media yielded minimal results, as these platforms were not frequented by their target audience. Furthermore, email leads collected from the prototype stage had grown stale, resulting in low conversion rates.

The turning point came when the team shifted focus to finding users where they were most active. By engaging on forums like Quora, publishing use-case articles for SEO, and integrating with automation tools like Zapier, Parseur began attracting customers. Their first paying customer subscribed in April 2017, marking a milestone for the company.

Through consistent improvements in customer support and expanding integrations, Parseur established itself as a reliable automation solution. Over time, it developed a robust presence in organic search results, attracting diverse clients and steadily increasing revenue.

Earnings

Today, Parseur generates $40,000 - $60,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR) from a few hundred paying customers. Its clients range from small businesses to large enterprises, processing various document workflows. The company has maintained steady growth without external investment, focusing on profitability and resilience.

The co-founders emphasize customer support as a cornerstone of their success, often interacting directly with clients to resolve technical issues. The team has also invested in content marketing and partnerships with automation platforms, ensuring a strong and diverse acquisition funnel.

Looking ahead, Parseur aims to introduce major feature upgrades to expand its use cases and solidify its position as the go-to solution for automated document data extraction. The founders remain committed to sustainable growth, prioritizing long-term stability over rapid scaling.
